The first Tuscan restaurant abroad to join the family of Vetrina Toscana, the project of the Region and Unioncamere Toscana to promote restaurants and food shops that use local Tuscan products. The restaurant is the recently opened “Sapori di Toscana”, located on the 34th floor of the prestigious Hotel Domain in Manama, Bahrain. The signing of the agreement to join the Vetrina Toscana network took place on Thursday January 11, during the mission organised by Toscana Promozione Turistica in the Arabian Peninsula from January 8 to 12.
“Vetrina Toscana,” commented Economy and Tourism Councillor Leonardo Marras, “celebrates its 24th birthday in 2024. It is the emblem of Tuscan food and wine, of culture linked to traditions. The affiliation of the first Tuscan restaurant abroad is a very important milestone that I hope will serve as a forerunner for other businesses operating around the world. It is a way to expand our network beyond the Italian borders and to promote our unique territories and a way of life”.
Tuscany was showcased through videos, a meeting on the theme of enhancing food and wine traditions, and a typical dinner organised by chef and kitchen manager Simona Girelli.
The entry of the restaurant into the Vetrina Toscana network is part of a mission to the Arabian Peninsula organised by Toscana Promozione Turistica. The trip includes B2B workshops with the participation of Tuscan companies and meetings with over 100 local operators: buyers, travel agents, tour operators and travel consultants from Bahrein. The tour began in Abu Dhabi on January 8 and continued in Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman on January 9 and in Dubai on January 10. At these events, as well as at the meeting in Bahrain, important moments were planned to present Tuscany to the press and local institutions, entrusted to TPT Director Francesco Tapinassi.
The last stop of the “Accessible Tourism International Summit” on January 11 and 12 was held once again in Dubai. This appointment was made possible thanks to the funding of the Office for Disability Policies of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. Toscana Promozione Turistica is involved in the “Tuscany for all” project, a specific promotional activity aimed at providing concrete answers to the vast world of travellers with disabilities.
Toscana Promozione Turistica is actively committed to the development of a culture of inclusive tourism, and in 2023 it launched a project to reissue all the printed material produced by the Agency in an accessible format; an action that will continue in 2024 and that, besides being a manifesto of intentions, is an important proactive contribution to the development of an all-round inclusive mindset.
Moreover, Fondazione Sistema Toscana, which organises and manages the official tourist destination site visittuscany.com (over 6 million hits and 4 million visitors in 2023), is also committed to the issues of accessibility and innovation, and since July 23 has renewed the graphic interfaces and content organisation of the website to offer a new browsing experience based on increasing levels of accessibility, in line with the guidelines of the W3C, the international consortium that defines standards for the web. A new design to improve usability, particularly for users with visual impairments or who use special navigational aids, and a simplified and optimised information architecture to address audiences with different sensitivities and needs using increasingly sophisticated digital tools.
