BuyFood Toscana, the international showcase of Made In Tuscany taste, is back. The event was established to promote relations between producers of excellence and importers from more than 20 countries around the world. A survey performed six months after the last edition of BuyFood Toscana revealed that 74% of negotiations moved forward following the event and that 56.3% of them resulted in finalising a business agreement. With the new edition about to begin, BuyFood Toscana, the international showcase of certified Made in Tuscany products under the PDO, PGI, Agriqualità, Mountain Products, Organic and PAT labels, proves to be a successful formula. The fifth edition is scheduled to open at Palazzo degli Affari in Florence on October 26 and 27 2023: two days of intense B2B meetings involving Tuscan producers selected through a regional call for entries and a large number of international buyers.

Among the novelties of the 2023 edition is the renewed interest in Tuscan products expressed by the Asian market. Europe and North America (mainly the US, Canada, Switzerland and Scandinavia) are confirmed as consolidated markets, with a significant opening towards the Far East (Japan, South Korea, and Singapore). In general terms, the response from buyers highlights how global market trends are constantly evolving and in search of innovative and high-quality products, which are also strongly rooted to their local traditions.
The perfect match between seller and buyer is guaranteed by an accurate profiling process – managed by PromoFirenze – that takes place in the months and weeks preceding the live meeting. Not all the producers actually meet every single buyer: meetings are organised so that buyers are only in contact with producers whose products match their target categories or characteristics. This explains the data collected 6 months before the 2022 edition: 95.2% of buyers are still convinced that they have met their target producers and 72.4% of respondents state that they have continued to maintain relations with the vendors.

The B2B meetings are going to be held in the morning at Palazzo degli Affari, while in the afternoon, thanks to the contribution of the Chamber of Commerce of Florence, company tours will be organised to visit producers in the province of Florence. At the end of the two days, buyers will be given the opportunity to increase their knowledge of products and territories by joining a one-day tour in the provinces of Florence or Pisa, thanks to the collaboration with the Chambers of Commerce of Florence and North-West Tuscany.
In parallel, on Friday October 27 from 10.30 a.m., Palazzo degli Affari is hosting a round table session in which ISMEA will outline the national and global market trends of the quality food industry of Tuscany. Representatives of institutions, research and protection associations will discuss the future of geographical indications and the pathways towards the goals of sustainability.

In the afternoon, journalists will be invited to participate in several in-depth master classes dedicated to specific local products, organised by the local Consortiums, in order to learn more about the origins, history and evolution of these products. The master classes – reserved exclusively for a limited number of participants and organised in small groups at restaurants that are members of the Vetrina Toscana circuit – will be presented by a group of journalists from ASET – the Tuscan Food and Wine Association, which is partnering with the event.
