The list of traditional agri-food products (Pat) of Tuscany is enriched with two additional products

Following Cacciucco, Florentine steak and Pomodoro Borsa di Montone enter the list of traditional agri-food products (Pat) of Tuscany. With these two new entries, the number of products that are declared children of Tuscan tradition comes to 463.

The famous Florentine steak, reported by the Accademia della Fiorentina as designated to receive Unesco recognition for its intangible heritage, is paired with Pomodoro Borsa di Montone, a niche product brought back from near extinction and registered in the National Registry of biodiversity of agricultural interest in 2020, and now produced thanks to a few willing custodian farmers who work in the Val di Bisenzio.

These are two products that reveal the different kinds of products included in the regional list of Tuscan Pat, some that are extremely well-known and widely consumed, others at high risk of extinction.

Vice president and councilor for agri-food Stefania Saccardi comments on how this is “A great opportunity for these two products. Being part of the Pat list means contributing to the growth of a community and the economy of a territory. But it’s also about obtaining recognition for our tradition, which is an expression of cultural heritage.

I am therefore very happy about these two additions which will contribute to continually bringing the famous Florentine steak to the world, while also safeguarding the genetic variability for food, Pomodoro Borso di montone, which is still among us because it’s carried by love and respect for tradition”.
