The region is in the spotlight with its treasures and heritage

2016 was the year of walking, while the following year was dedicated to villages; now, 2018 is the Year of Italian Food, an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, together with Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies. For 365 days, Tuscany will take on a leading role during a year that will focus on promoting the close bond between art, food and the territory.

Agriculture, landscape, historic crafts and farm-grown products: these are the aspects that Tuscany has defended and promoted to this day, thanks in part to an itinerary launched by Vetrina Toscana.

Here’s a closer look at the initiatives that will put Tuscany in the spotlight during the Year of Food and which will be part of the nationwide calendar:

Tuscan previews: a week of events during which Tuscany’s producer associations will present their crops and introduce journalists and professionals to their territories;

L’Arcipelago del gusto (The archipelago of flavour): eight chefs from the Tuscan Archipelago will be hosted by colleagues on the mainland as they present their territory through dishes and flavours;

Calici di stelle (Glasses and stars): the wine cellars belonging to the Wine Tourism Movement (Movimento del Turismo del Vino di Toscana) will open their doors to enthusiasts and curious visitors, offering an unforgettable experience during one of the most magical evenings of the year, the evening of shooting stars;

Camminata fra gli olivi (A stroll through the olive groves): there are more than 100 Città dell’Olio, or Olive Oil Cities, that will organize walks through olive groves, guided visits to pressing mills and tastings for the Giornata della Camminata tra gli Olivi;

Gelato Festival: now in its 9th edition, it’s the most important event dedicated to the world of Italian gelato;

Girolio: a tour that, from April to December, will traverse Italy on a discovery of the best of Italian food, areas and territories known for their productions, places and the crafts tied to the land and oil. The tour will also stop in Tuscany;

48th Annual White Truffle Fair in San Miniato: the historic centre of San Miniato (PI), boasting centuries-old streets and historic piazzas, will become the largest open-air workshop of flavour in Italy, where foodies and visitors come together to admire the best of food and wine;

Toscana in bocca (A taste of Tuscany): a multisensorial itinerary in Pistoia aimed at promoting the territory and the best of its food and in wine.

Additional events organized by Vetrina Toscana will be held in addition to these, which will be announced throughout the year.
