Antica Locanda di Sesto is located on the right bank of the Serchio River. Its construction dates back to 1368 as described by the marble plaque at the entrance of the dining room, when the rich and noble Lucchesi merchants built their country house to spend cool summers and reinvest part of their good earnings back into the land that bestowed them the accumulation of capital to begin with, an act necessary to support the birth of the same trade.

The love for the land, inherent in the mentality of Lucca locals, and for genuine and traditional local products has united, over the centuries, the various owners. To name a few: Count Carlo De Nobili, Alaide Nannizzi and Raffaello and Lamberto Tomei.

Today the restaurant is in the hands of Messrs Ida Tomei, Raffaella and Adriano Barattini, the children of Aurelio and Lamberto, who join typical Emilian friendliness with the Lucca love for genuine products. The family-run restaurant ensures friendliness and warmth from the moment you enter the dining room, where the noise and voices are muffled and the air exudes a sweet sense of ‘good things from the past.’

Yes, from the past, because the owners have chosen quality as their symbol by purchasing vineyards and olive groves in the Maolina area and dealing personally with their production. Even our old counts would be proud of Messrs Ida, Raffaella and Adriano, because once again, the restaurant remains in the hands of those who love to protect the earth and its products. A choice that is certainly difficult and not always understood by everyone, but this is precisely what makes the difference between eating and savouring food, between eaters and gourmets.
