The presentation of the event at the Sassoli Media Centre in Palazzo del Pegaso

On Tuesday April 8, the third edition of Serravalle De Gusto: The Flavours of Montalbano was presented at the Sassoli Media Centre in Palazzo del Pegaso. The event will take place in Serravalle Pistoiese, from 11 a.m. until sunset, on Friday April 25.

Before the cutting of the green, white and red ribbon that will officially open the event, a Liberation Day commemoration will be held at the War Memorial, with the laying of a laurel wreath. After that, a journey of flavours will begin, with fine wines, traditional street food, and local delicacies, accompanied by music, exhibitions, and guided tours.

The programme

From 11 in the morning until sunset there will be a large showcase of tastings of oil, wine and products from the Montalbano area, guided tastings by FISAR sommeliers, a Master Class by producer Antonio Arrighi with his famous wines from the Island of Elba, and at 3 p.m., at the former nursery school in Serravalle, a meeting with the University of Pisa led by the rector’s delegate Professor Alessio Cavicchi, focusing on co-creation activities in the Montalbano area linked to the Mignola Olive. Also attending again this year will be the beautiful town of Bagnara Calabra with its wines, nougat and ceramics.

In the afternoon, at 4.30 p.m. in the former Oratory of the Assumption of the Virgin, there will be the presentation of the book “Franco Ballerini. Campione in Tutto” written by Caterina Benini, introduced by the journalist Ilaria Lumini. Throughout the day: Live Music On the Road, archery trials organised by the Palio Archers Group, and pony rides with Stefano Ferrari Ranch. A walk from San Jacopo to San Lodovico is also scheduled by the tourist office, starting from Piazza Duomo in Pistoia at 9 a.m. and arriving in Serravalle Pistoiese. In the morning, with a meeting point at 8.30 a.m. at Agriglamping La Diaccia, there will be the De Gusto Bike, a guided bike and e-bike excursion led by an expert from the sports club Freebike of Casalguidi. Booking is required at + 39 338 668 5749.

Organised by the tourism office, there will also be guided tours of the medieval village, including a climb up the Barbarossa Tower (booking is required in this case as well, at + 39 338 6685749). In addition, throughout the day: visit to the Chapel of the SS. Sacramento and San Lodovico led by the Confraternita di Parte Guelfa, a Tennis Open Day at the tennis Club le Torri, Painting Exhibition by Rita Migliorati at the former nursery school in Serravalle, the Leonardiano of Vinci Museum with workshops “Il sogno del volo” at the Church of San Michele Arcangelo, street food and lots of fun. The music will continue with the Banda dello Zenzero and many surprises from 11 a.m. until sunset. Also, this year, those who wish to experience the medieval atmosphere of Serravalle on April 25 will be able to use a free shuttle service.

The event is organised by the Montalbano Oil and Wine Route Association, in collaboration with the local Arci club and the tourism department of Serravalle Pistoiese.
