\nFiche maschie a stocchetto are salted and dried blue whiting fillets. The blue whiting or whiting (Micromesistius poutassou, Gadidae family) is a sea fish with a long and thin body. Its dorsal is a blue-grey colour with a lighter belly and is about 35-40cm long.<\/p>\n

\nThe product is traditional to the Argentario Coast and stems from the customs of the fishing community in Porto Ercole, who would package them during their fishing breaks. They are used in a traditional dish where the fillets are cooked with potatoes in a sauce with garlic and wild rosemary.<\/p>\n

\nFiche maschie are not sold, but are an artisan product destined entirely for individual consumption. In fact, they\u2019re prepared by the fisherman on board their vessels. They are hung for a day or two at the most to dry and then eaten.
